When the men entered Sweden with two underwater scooters in their cargo, customs became suspicious, and the men were later arrested with 170 kilos of cocaine. Now they are being sentenced, reports P4 Väst.

This summer, a foreign camper was stopped at the Öresund Bridge with two underwater scooters.

"It is a well-known practice that smugglers use divers to pick up drugs placed on ship hulls below the water surface," said Richard Johansson, group leader at the Swedish Customs' Criminal Investigation Department West, in a press release in connection with the indictment.

The police were later able to seize 170 kilos of cocaine – worth around 160 million kronor in drug dealing – in two vehicles in Ljungskile. The drugs had been retrieved from a ship in Uddevalla harbour using diving equipment and underwater scooters, according to P4.

Two men have now been sentenced to ten years in prison and deportation for a particularly serious drug offense, and a third to seven years in prison and deportation for the same offense.
