There have been occasional shortages of beef on store shelves. Now, statistics from the Swedish Board of Agriculture show that cattle slaughter fell by eight percent last year compared with 2024, to 128,100 tons.
This is the lowest figure since 2013.
The slaughter of sheep and lambs also decreased during the year, more than six percent lower than the previous year. The quantity was thus the lowest since 2004.
However, the slaughter of pork and poultry increased in 2025, by two percent compared with 2024, according to the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
