Carolina seems to have had few problems in the early stages of the Stanley Cup playoffs. After sweeping Ottawa in four straight games in the round of 16, it was a clear victory over Philadelphia in the first game of the quarterfinals.
The team, which won the Eastern Conference, was dominant in the first two periods, with a 21–9 shot advantage. This resulted in a three-goal lead heading into the final period.
In the third period, Philadelphia fired more shots than in the first two periods combined. But none of the ten shots found their way past Danish goalie Frederik Andersen in the Carolina net. The game ended 3–0.
