The CBC estimates that Carney's Liberal Party has secured two of the three seats in parliament, which would then give it 173 of the 343 seats. The result for the last seat is not yet clear.

The majority means that the government will be able to pass laws without receiving support from opposition parties.

Carney won the election in Canada last year. His party could remain in power until 2029, according to Monday's results.
