A crowd had gathered on Saturday morning to wave off the team bus ahead of Sunday's playoff game when what is believed to be an accident occurred.
Two of the injured - a five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man - are reported to be in critical condition. The other injured include two children.
An 18-year-old man was driving the vehicle and has been arrested.
He revved the engine, he was excited, he was a supporter, Newcastle Mayor Gavin Morris told ABC.
Somehow he lost control of the car... and drove into the crowd.
