Åge Hareide has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The cancer has caused him to have limited speech and problems with motor skills, among other things.

It's a bit of a shame... There won't be any more coaching jobs, he says.

The day before Norway's World Cup qualifier away against Italy, national team captain Ståle Solbakken sent a greeting to his football colleague: Åge Hareide.

"He should actually be sitting here with you today. He's fighting a tough battle," says Solbakken.

He is one of the few Norwegians with World Cup experience as a coach and knows what it's all about. He is here today in Milan and will watch the match. Maybe we will see him in the locker room before the match. I wish Åge all the best and success.

A year ago, Hareide left the role of Iceland's national team manager. He has since been an expert for NRK. Åge Hareide, 72, has also coached Swedish clubs Helsingborg, Örgryte and Malmö FF, among others. He led Helsingborg to SM gold in 1999 and MFF in 2014.
