The Microsoft-owned gaming giant Activision has signed a contract with Paramount to make a film based on the popular first-person shooter.
"As a lifelong fan of 'Call of Duty' this is really a dream come true", says David Elison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, in a statement.
Paramount and Activision say they intend to honor the spirit of the game for all fans of "Call of Duty", whose first edition was released in 2003 and has since been followed by a long series of sequels. The first games took place during World War II, but since then both the Cold War and the future have been the basis for the games.
"Call of Duty" has been the best-selling game in the USA for 16 years in a row, and has been sold in over 500 million copies globally.
