The Center Party wants it not to be a criminal offense to have traces of drugs in urine, blood or saliva.

This was decided at the party's meeting in Karlstad on Saturday after a proposal from Center Students.

We must achieve this shift in perspective when it comes to addiction. Addicts should primarily be offered care and support to help them get away from addiction, says Centerstudents chairman Rasmus Elfström.

According to Elfström, the police spend a lot of resources on being out and "picking up more or less well-known addicts."

The question is whether this is the right way to prioritize the justice system's resources. These people would probably have felt better themselves if they had received care and support, he says.

Delegates at the meeting also voted against the proposal to decriminalize drugs for personal use.
