The Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch wants the burka and niqab to be completely banned in public environments.

One should be able to meet in real life if one is on the street, if one shops on the market, in the Ica store or takes the children to the health center. Then I do not want to meet anyone who has a sign on their entire face, she says to Aftonbladet.

The ban is to include public places such as streets, squares, shopping centers and healthcare facilities.

According to Busch, the niqab and burka are an expression of a strict interpretation of Islam that is incompatible with Swedish values.

Islam must adapt in Sweden. One can be a proud Swedish Muslim, Christian, Jew, atheist, but it is the fundamental Swedish values that must apply to all of us.

The leader of The Liberals, Simona Mohamsson, comments on Busch's statement:

"Burka and niqab are women-oppressing garments that are based on the idea that women should not be seen in public. For The Liberals, it is important that those who practice religious oppression - such as veil compulsion - are punished by society", she writes in a text message to Aftonbladet.

The proposal to ban the burka and niqab in public environments is part of a development work that a working group within The Christian Democrats has developed ahead of the party conference later this autumn. It has not been anchored with the other Tidö parties.

Ebba Busch states that society can neither control nor should control what people do at home.

But the burka does not belong in Sweden and we should not pave the way for it. We should stop it here.
