It was set up for a hockey party in Gävle, when home-strong Brynäs – with only one loss at home so far this SHL season – received Färjestad in a real top meeting.
But no party was had for the home crowd initially. Färjestad got a perfect start to the match when Emil Alba could set 1–0 after barely six minutes. It was his first SHL goal in his career.
It was fun, long-awaited. It was nice, he says.
Brynäs came out in the second period as the better team, but despite that, the goal scoring was far off. Among other things, Canadian Charles-Édouard D'astous burned a giant opportunity with an open goal at close range, when he shot outside.
The points king stepped forward
It required that Brynäs points king Jakob Silfverberg stepped forward for something to happen. With just over a minute left of the period, the 34-year-old came in a breakaway and could set the equalizer for the home team.
I don't know how I end up where I end up, but I get a breakaway from blue and have no speed really, but manage to trickle it in. An important goal for us, says Silfverberg.
1–1 stood all the way through both the third period and overtime, and penalties were required to produce a winner. There, Brynäs was strongest – and yet another home win was secured.
HV71 with sixth straight
In Gothenburg, Frölunda received HV71 – then the guests arranged their sixth straight win when they won 4–2. HV71 now has only two points up to Linköping – which lost 2–4 to Rögle – on safe ground, and also increases the distance down to bottom-placed Modo, who fell 0–3 to Luleå.
