After twelve seasons in NHL, Jakob Silfverberg chose to return to his parent club. He arrived last autumn when Brynäs had bounced back to SHL after a season in HockeyAllsvenskan.
The journey began already last year when they built something fantastic and had an incredible season, and came into this season with great confidence, says Silfverberg to TV4 Play.
Brynäs did not behave like a newcomer but could even win the regular season.
We filled up with players and several have stepped forward. We have an incredibly broad squad and it's a strength, says Silfverberg.
Referee decisions in focus
The final spot was secured in the fifth semifinal match against Skellefteå, which the Gävle team won 4–1.
The match picture could have looked different if it weren't for a couple of referee decisions.
First, Skellefteå's Jonathan Davidsson was given a match penalty for a tackle in the back of Brynäs' Theo Lindstein. During the five-minute penalty, Brynäs made it 1–0.
Then, Skellefteå's 2–2 goal in the second period was disallowed after video review, as the Brynäs goalkeeper was disturbed.
Power play worked
Charles-Édouard D'Astous scored Brynäs' first two goals and Jakob Silfverberg the third. Two of the goals were scored in power play.
It was nice to score (the goal) in power play, it has been an Achilles' heel for us, says Silfverberg to TV4 Play.
Jack Kopacka then added to Brynäs' goal tally in five-on-four play to 4–1.
In the final, Brynäs will face either Frölunda or Luleå.
To get the chance to play the final, it's a privilege few get. I missed the playoffs six years in a row (with Anaheim) and have longed for this. It's going to be incredibly fun, says Silfverberg.
