The figures signal growing concerns in the British job market, Suren Thiru, chief economist at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England (ICAEW), told The Guardian.
Unemployment rose to 5.0 percent. According to a Bloomberg survey, analysts on average expected unemployment to remain unchanged at 4.9 percent.
The number of job vacancies fell by 28,000 in the period February–April to a total of 705,000. This is the lowest level in five years.
Rising personnel costs and the consequences of the Iran war are causing more companies to reduce their hiring, says Suren Thiru.
