In 1967, Danny Thompson was involved in forming Pentangle, an acoustic group that mixed English folk songs with jazz, blues, and rock. The quintet would become very influential for a then completely new music style where music from different genres was fused to create something new.
But after six years, Pentangle split up and Danny Thompson continued as a solo artist and played his bass on recordings with a range of different artists.
He collaborated, among others, with jazz musicians such as Sonny Rollins and Ronnie Scott as well as folk musician Tim Buckley and rock artists with Kate Bush and Billy Bragg at the forefront.
It was not until 1987 that Danny Thompson released the first of four solo albums he recorded.
