A British adventurer has, as far as is known, become the first woman to solo ski across the Canadian Baffin Island – in temperatures down to 40 degrees below zero and with winds exceeding 20 meters per second.

Camilla Hempleman-Adams completed the grueling 24 miles from Qikiqtarjuaq to Pangnirtung in 13 days – one day ahead of schedule, reports Sky News.

It has been two very tough weeks, but also two incredible weeks, says the 32-year-old to the media company.

I feel quite exhausted and have very sore feet, but it feels nice to be back in civilization.

Her father, adventurer David Hempleman-Adams, met his daughter at the finish line. He says he was "very, very worried" due to the strong winds, which greatly increase the risk of frostbite.

The largely uninhabited Baffin Island, located west of Greenland, is the world's fifth largest island in terms of area.
