After a couple of years of rising numbers, layoffs due to a lack of work in the welfare sector decreased last year.

This is shown by a compilation from the Transition Fund.

After a significant increase in layoffs from 2022 to 2024 - from 497 to 2,466 people - 2025 marked a turning point.

2,200 people were laid off due to labor shortages, almost 11 percent fewer than in 2024.

Of those who received support from the Transition Fund, nine out of ten went on to work, study or start their own business. On average, it took four months to find new employment.

"The decrease may be a sign of some stabilization in welfare, while the results show that adjustment does not have to lead to long-term unemployment," says Eva Wikström, CEO of the Transition Fund, in a press release.
