Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff recently said that a reunion with Bottas was only "a matter of time". Bottas has started 243 GP races and won ten of them during his five years at Mercedes. He finished second in the World Championship behind the Brit Lewis Hamilton in both 2019 and 2020.
Mercedes is forced to change its lineup next year after Hamilton's move to Ferrari. George Russell will get the Italian teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli as his new teammate.
