According to Noem, the body camera project will be expanded nationally as funding becomes available.
“We will quickly procure and deploy body cameras to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers across the country,” she writes.
The announcement comes after the high-profile shootings in Minneapolis in recent weeks, where two American citizens who were protesting efforts to apprehend undocumented migrants were fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal border agents.
The events have sparked strong protests among Minnesota residents, and a growing number of Democrats in the U.S. Congress want to impeach Kristi Noem.
