Tom Homan, Trump's border chief, said US President Donald Trump sees a need for "improvements" in law enforcement efforts against migrants.

"President Trump and I, along with others in the administration, have come to the conclusion that certain improvements can and should be made. That's exactly what I'm going to do here," Homan said at a press conference in Minneapolis.

Homan promises to "restore law and order" in the city, and to deal with federal agents who are not behaving properly.

If they don't, they will be dealt with just like any other federal agency. We have codes of conduct.

In recent weeks, two people in Minneapolis, both American citizens protesting immigration enforcement targeting undocumented migrants, were shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal border agents, sparking strong protests locally and elsewhere in the United States.

Homan says the government will continue its crackdown on people in the United States illegally.

We will ensure that we carry out targeted police operations, and I will say it again: We will in no way back down from the mission. We will just do it smarter.
