Booker Prize Allows Previous Winners to Compete Again

Kiran Desai received the Booker Prize in 2006. 19 years later, the Indian author can again be awarded the prestigious award. She is one of six nominees ahead of the gala in November.

Kiran Desai received the award for the novel "Bittert arv" and is now nominated for "The loneliness of Sonia and Sunny" – a book that took her 20 years to write and which is the thickest on the final nomination list, which is now presented.

The Booker Prize is one of the English-speaking world's finest literary awards.

'Three American authors are among the nominees; Susan Choi ("Flashlight"), Katie Kitamura ("Audition") and Ben Markovits ("The rest of our lives"). The other nominees are the British-Hungarian author David Szalay ("Flesh") and the Briton Andrew Miller ("The land in winter").

This year's jury is led by the Irish author and includes, among others, "Sex and the city" star Sarah Jessica Parker and the Nigerian author Ayòbámi Adébáyò

The prize amount is 500,000 pounds, approximately 640,000 kronor. The winner will be announced on November 10.
