But despite two extra points, Bochum can still be relegated from the top football league in Germany.
The match, which was played on December 14, ended 1–1. In added time, Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was hit by a lighter, thrown from the stands. Drewes could not continue playing and could not be replaced since Bochum had made all their substitutions. The teams just kicked the ball between each other for the remainder of the match.
Bochum appealed the decision to continue playing and in January, the German Football Association awarded the team a 2–0 victory.
This was later appealed by Union Berlin, but now the appeal has been dismissed.
Despite the extra points for the win, Bochum still has a tough situation and will be relegated from the German top league if they lose Friday's match against Heidenheim.
Corrected: In an earlier version, it was incorrectly stated that Bochum would be relegated from the Bundesliga. It is still not entirely clear.
