The patient had suffered from a serious eye disease that was initially treated with good results in the region. However, the disease worsened and a university clinic was contacted.
It took nine months after the first referral before the patient was given an appointment at the clinic, and then there was another wait for a return visit.
Before the patient could undergo surgery, his vision had been completely lost, Region Kronoberg writes in a press release .
The incident has been reported to the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo). At the same time, the region has reviewed its procedures to ensure faster and closer contact with university clinics.
