Bitter defeat for Modo after powerful turnaround

SHL-bottom team Modo responded with a powerful turnaround – from 0-2 to 4-2 – away against top team Färjestad. However, it was only enough for one point. The Karlstad team came back and won 5-4 after overtime. It's bitter, says Modo coach Mattias Karlin to TV4 Play.

After the first period in Karlstad, table two Färjestad led 2-0 against the visiting SHL bottom team Modo. According to plan, at least based on the table.

It's maybe not a 2-0 period for us. Modo maybe should have had a goal too, says Färjestad defender Magnus Nygren to TV4 Play after the second period.

"Raka jävla motsatsen"

We needed to come out tighter, better, less naive and more humble, but we unfortunately do the exact opposite, continues Nygren.

Yes, Modo responded with a rugged turnaround in the second period. Paul Ladue arranged the reduction after 2.46 - six minutes later, Sampo Ranta snatched the puck and could score the equalizer behind Maxime Lagacé in the home goal.

After 12.44, the turnaround was a fact when Alexander True poked in his seventh SHL goal for the season. It wasn't over there. With 2.31 minutes left to play, Modo responded with a dream goal when defender David Rundblad thundered in the 4-2 puck.

It was just to close your eyes and shoot as hard as you could, says Rundblad to TV4 Play.

Färjestad came back

The third period was characterized by a hunt for a reduction goal for Färjestad, and finally, the home team got to Olle Eriksson Ek in the Modo goal. After 11.17, Stian Solberg sent the puck into the net to 3-4.

With over four minutes left to play, the equalizing goal also fell when defender Adam Ollas Mattsson set 4-4, which meant overtime.

There, Marián Studenic got a free chance with over two minutes left to play and with a dropped puck in a drag, the Slovak cleverly outsmarted Eriksson Ek in the away goal to 5-4.
