Sweden has had fewer confirmed cases of bird flu during the period October 2024 to September 2025 than during the previous four seasons. In poultry, only one outbreak was confirmed, in an enclosure with pheasants in February.
Also in wild birds, there have been few confirmed cases in the past year. In total, the disease was confirmed in 13 birds in seven different counties, writes the National Veterinary Institute on its website.
In Denmark, the culling of 150,000 laying hens is underway since bird flu was confirmed in Danish Fredericia. Germany, Poland and the Netherlands have also had outbreaks of bird flu.
