Clinton has appeared in a number of documents released by the US Department of Justice this year. Before the hearing, he said again that he had "done nothing wrong" and that his contact with Epstein was broken off before the sex crimes became known.

Republican Chairman James Comer stated afterward that Clinton "answered, or attempted to answer, all questions." His colleague Nancy Mace, also a Republican, said Clinton was "inconsistent" in parts of his testimony.

The hearing took place behind closed doors.
