The incoming Czech tripartite government is reviewing the outgoing government's budget proposal for 2026. It is missing 95 billion Czech crowns, equivalent to 43 billion Swedish crowns.

The Czech Parliament's Budget Committee has recommended that the budget proposal be sent back to the government with an instruction to find financing to cover the deficit.

The issue will be raised in the full chamber, where the three prospective government parties have a majority, on Wednesday.

The three-party coalition is led by billionaire Andrej Babis, leader of the populist party ANO, which made a strong comeback in the parliamentary elections in October.

If parliament has not hammered out a budget before the end of the year, a provisional budget will be used, which limits each month's spending to one twelfth of last year's total spending.

It is clear that we are moving towards a provisional budget, says Alena Schillerova, who is ANO's candidate for the post of Minister of Finance.
