Last year, 89 berry pickers were granted permits. The Migration Board has previously rejected a large proportion of applications due to irregularities in the industry.
"This year, several employers have shown that they can offer fair working conditions, so we see no reason to reject these applications," says Merima Ilijasevic, section head at the authority, to SVT.
Following a government decision, berry pickers can no longer be granted work permits in Sweden - the permits granted fall under the EU's seasonal directive. Previously, most of the berry pickers were employed by Thai staffing agencies, but now they must be employed directly by a Swedish company, writes SVT.
