The independent senator Bernie Sanders has attracted a record audience on his tour, where he urges protests against the US President Donald Trump. On Saturday, at least 36,000 people gathered in Los Angeles.

We live in a time when the Republican Party is built on personality cult, where one obeys Trump's every wish, said Sanders to the crowd in Los Angeles on Saturday, reports The Guardian.

Sanders said, among other things, that the Trump administration plans to give 1,100 billion dollars in tax relief to the rich, equivalent to around 11,000 billion Swedish kronor. He urged the audience to "take back the USA".

After the meeting, the senator headed to the Coachella festival, where he surprised the audience with a fiery speech:

We have an economy today that works very well for billionaires but not for working families, he said according to the Los Angeles Times.

The 83-year-old Sanders' tour, which goes by the name "Fighting oligarchy", has broken audience records in several places in the country. Including in Tempe, Arizona, where he, according to The Guardian, held the largest political meeting ever in the state.

Corrected: In an earlier version of the text, an incorrect amount for tax relief was stated.
