Favourable weather conditions such as light rain, high humidity and no wind have helped firefighting efforts.
"It's positive for us," a spokesperson for the rescue services said, according to the newspaper.
Late Sunday evening, smaller parts of the German border town of Monschau - which has about 12,000 residents - began to be evacuated, according to local authorities. At the time, the fire was about 300 metres from the German border.
The fire has so far destroyed approximately 3,000 hectares.
