The raid was carried out on Thursday on behalf of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), writes Politico.
The EPPO confirms to the newspaper that it has collected evidence for an "ongoing investigation" but does not give further details. A spokesperson for the Commission confirmed that it concerns the sale of 23 Commission buildings to the Belgian state in 2024.
The spokesperson says the sale was carried out in accordance with applicable rules and is confident that no violations occurred. The European Commission is cooperating fully with the investigation, the spokesperson added.
Raids have reportedly taken place at several locations, including the Commission's budget department.
