Begoña Gómez, wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, charged with bribery

The investigation into corruption allegations has been ongoing since April 2024, and raises questions about whether Gómez exploited her position as the wife of the socialist prime minister for personal gain.

Formal charges have now been filed by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who says he has found enough evidence to support those suspicions.

Prime Minister Sánchez has on several occasions accused the investigation of being politically motivated. Sánchez has responded by, among other things, filing a lawsuit against Peinado after the judge did not allow written answers from the prime minister but demanded oral testimony.
