The Transport Workers' Union has declared a conflict, as they believe the employer, the Swedish Aviation Industry, is not willing to improve the terms and conditions for cabin crew.
Initially, a blockade – of all work outside the regular basic schedule and a hiring and leasing blockade – was to be initiated on May 21, but it has now been postponed to May 26 at 04:30. This means that a strike and blockade can break out simultaneously if no agreement is reached.
"Now the limit has been exceeded and our members are saying stop, it's enough", said Transport's chairman Tommy Wreeth in a press release on Monday.
He points out that working conditions and working hours for cabin crew need to be improved. The strike affects those in the crew who are or have been trained as Senior Cabin Crew (cabin chief).
The Swedish Aviation Industry has offered Transport an agreement that follows the mark set by the Industry Agreement, which means a cost increase of 6.4 percent over two years. The employer believes that the mark is crucial for Swedish competitiveness.
A mediator from the Mediation Institute has been appointed to try to resolve the conflict.
At the same time, Transport has also declared a conflict for port personnel, and if no agreement is reached, a blockade against new hires and leasing, as well as overtime, extra time, and changes to regular working hours will start on May 21. The strike will break out in stages, starting on May 30.
