Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan, who recently made his debut in the American PGA tour, severely injured his eye when he was hit by a ball in the face during a competition south of Sydney on Friday.
The 20-year-old was hit just below the eye and was flown to a hospital in Canberra for emergency treatment. On Sunday, he was transferred to Sydney, where he will undergo surgery for extensive injuries to his cheekbone and eye socket, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
It's really horrific, said his coach Paul Davis to Australian Golf Digest after the accident.
Guan is described as a young promising golfer who recently signed with the same management company as golf stars Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson.
He received a sponsor invitation to the PGA tour event in Napa, California, earlier in September, where he shot a 69 in the first round but missed the cut after a second round of 75.
