A fire broke out in a synagogue in Melbourne, Australia, during the night leading up to Friday, reports Australian ABC.
The police are calling the incident "suspected", according to AFP.
The rescue service was alerted to the scene at 4 am local time. At that point, the entire synagogue was in flames.
About 60 firefighters participated in the extinguishing work and after approximately half an hour, the fire was under control.
The cause of the fire is still not established.
The synagogue suffered significant damage, so a criminal investigation has been initiated, says Darcy Sword of the police to ABC.
No one was injured in the fire.
