Rising sea levels and floods caused by climate change risk directly affecting approximately 1.5 million people in Australia over the next 25 years. This is shown by a risk analysis that the country's government has had carried out.

The report warns of several climate-related problems in the country, including a significant increase in deaths linked to high heat. In addition, several of the country's unique animal species are expected to either have to move or become extinct.

At the same time, property values corresponding to 611 billion Australian dollars – approximately 3.8 billion kronor – are expected to be lost as a result of climate change.

Particularly vulnerable to rising water levels are expected to be residents of the Torres Strait Islands, in the northern parts of the country, according to the report.
