Spectators will be allowed in for free after the start of matches during the African Championships in Morocco, a source within the African Football Confederation revealed to AFP.

The first group stage of the championship has been played, but has not generated any ticket rush. Instead, spectators have been allowed into several matches for free after the match kicked off to fill the stands.

The source states that the gates open around 20 minutes after kick-off and that people outside the stadiums are allowed in without a ticket.

The match between Cameroon and Gabon began in front of a virtually empty stadium, which then filled up during the first half. The crowd eventually reached 35,200. Similar scenes have been repeated in several matches.

There are also tickets for almost all remaining group stage matches, with prices starting at around 100 Swedish kronor.

Delivering a good championship is important for Morocco, as it is seen as a building block for the country to host the 2030 World Cup together with Spain and Portugal.
