The issue was up for a vote when the Swedish Olympic Committee held its annual meeting, writes SVT.
The meeting voted to continue applying the SOK's rules: in other words, that an athlete must be deemed capable of reaching a top-12 ranking to be placed on the Olympic squad.
In its motion, the Swedish Athletics Federation proposed changing the rule so that meeting the international Olympic qualifying standards would be sufficient for selection.
Several sports figures have in various contexts supported the athletics proposal, but the annual meeting was not interested in pursuing that route.
