A drone attack on the Darfur region of Sudan, which has been severely damaged by civil war, has claimed at least ten lives.

The attack took place in the besieged town of al-Malha. The death toll was reported by rescue workers in North Darfur province on Sunday. The attack is said to have taken place on Saturday, but neither the Sudanese army nor the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have claimed responsibility for the attack. The two sides are fighting in a civil war that has killed tens of thousands of civilians and displaced nearly 12 million people.

The town of al-Malha is controlled by the paramilitary group RSF, which is accused of committing widespread crimes in its attacks on civilians in the Darfur region. Accusations are also leveled against the Sudanese army for brutal abuses.

On Sunday, there were also reports that medical personnel and rescue workers had been evacuated from the heavily-affected town of Kadugli. Earlier, the UN decided to abandon the local headquarters and evacuate to a new location – without specifying where.
