The Crew-12 expedition has reached the International Space Station (ISS), about 400 kilometers above Earth. The mission was led by Swedish-American astronaut Jessica Meir.

The journey from the U.S. spaceport at Cape Canaveral, Florida, aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 took about 34 hours.

The new crew is replacing a crew that had to cut short its stay on the ISS for medical reasons.

"As we look back at Earth from these windows, we are reminded that cooperation is not only possible, it is necessary. Up here, there are no borders and the hope is universal," Meir said as the spacecraft docked with the space station.

In addition to Meir, the crew includes American astronaut Jack Hathaway, French astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Russian cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev.
