The Tokyo stock exchange's Nikkei 225 index was up 0.8 percent when investors went to lunch, while the broader Topix index indicated a plus of 0.9 percent.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng fluctuated around zero at the same time, while Shanghai and Shenzhen's composite index were down 0.1 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
South Korea's Kospi index was simultaneously at a plus of 0.5 percent, while Taiwan's weighted index was up as much as 2.4 percent.
Trump said late on Wednesday evening Swedish time that he intends to introduce 100 percent tariffs on microchips and semiconductors, but that companies that invest in the USA will be exempt from the tariffs.
However, it is unclear how Trump thinks the exemptions should be designed and which companies qualify, as well as when they will come into force.
A spokesperson for the Taiwanese government stated during the night that they assume the country's largest exporter, TSMC, will be exempt since the company has invested in expanding its facilities in the USA.
