Asia's leading stock exchanges climbed upwards in early Thursday trading, after US President Donald Trump announced that the American automotive industry would be given a month's reprieve from the 25-percent tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico.
Japan's key Nikkei 225 was up 0.8 percent at lunchtime, while the Topix index had risen 1.2 percent.
The composite indexes in Shanghai and Shenzhen were up 1.1 and 1.8 percent, respectively. Even in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index had risen by 2.6 percent, while South Korea's Kospi index had increased by 0.7 percent.
