The leading Asian stock exchanges began the week's second trading day in different directions in a situation where some – like investors on Wall Street on Monday – let the hope of less extensive Trump tariffs than feared guide the mood.
In Tokyo, the important Nikkei 225 index had increased by 0.6 around lunchtime, while the broader Topix index grew 0.2.
Much gloomier was the situation in Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng index fell by 2.2 percent.
Joy was not dominant either among the composite indexes in Shanghai and Shenzhen, which decreased by 0.2 and 0.8, respectively.
