After Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the fourth round of the French Championships, she told the press conference about cultural differences in coaches in Eastern Europe and in the Western world.
I've always been very motivated and no one needed to push me. But still, I heard that I wasn't smart enough, they said I was stupid, that I would never become anything and that I didn't have anything to do at the top, says the 27-year-old.
I would probably like to send a message to them (her youth coaches) that they should stop, because honestly, they can't do anything and should stop to save other players.
Sabalenka says that in Eastern European countries, the environment within tennis is very tough and the coaches very brutal.
There's nothing nice in their way of working with players, they are quite unpleasant. I think that maybe it has made us mentally stronger, but at the same time, they break down many players due to their attitudes. I think that in Europe and in the USA, the environment is much healthier.
