The authorities are now obliged to notify the police if there is reason to assume that someone does not have the right to reside in Sweden. During the first three weeks of the law, around 80 people have been reported as suspects, reportsSvD, citing figures from the National Border Police Unit.
Most reports are from the Swedish Public Employment Service.
The duty to provide information, called by critics the “reporting law”, is limited to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, the Swedish Enforcement Authority, the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Pensions Agency and the Swedish Tax Agency.
The Border Police has no information that anyone has been allowed to leave Sweden as a result of the new law.
