The Parliament of Armenia has voted to allow the country's government to initiate the path towards EU membership.
With 64 votes against 7, the government was mandated on Wednesday to launch the "EU accession process".
The road ahead is, however, still long and complicated. For an Armenian application for membership to even be considered by the EU, the country must first be accepted by the EU as a "potential member state", which has not yet happened.
Subsequently, the country needs to meet a long list of tough legal, economic, and political requirements to be admitted to the union.
