Argentina and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached a preliminary rescue plan for the heavily strained economy in the South American country.

The rescue package amounts to 20 billion dollars, equivalent to approximately 200 billion kronor. The plan must be approved by the IMF's top management.

The IMF has come to Argentina's rescue numerous times over the years. Argentina owes the IMF 40 billion dollars from previous times.

Argentina's controversial president Javier Milei has managed to push down inflation, from around 200 to 100 percent. And he has also, with tough savings, managed to turn the state budget into a surplus.
