Arctic foxes in Västerbotten were almost extinct in the late 1990s. The species is still endangered - Arctic foxes are red-listed and very few in number - but conservation efforts have yielded results.

Arctic foxes have increased. They find food even when voles are scarce, Åsa Granberg of the Västerbotten County Administrative Board told SVT Västerbotten.

According to species facts, there are around 277 adult Arctic foxes in Sweden. Five years ago, the number was 165.

In years when voles and lemmings are scarce, they may need a little extra help finding food. The feeders are designed so that only Arctic foxes can access the food. Red foxes and wolverines are too big.
