Even 2024 became another record-hot summer for Japan. The average temperature for 2024 was, together with the summer of 2023, the highest measured since the measurements began almost 130 years ago, according to statistics from the country's weather authority.

The average temperature was 1.76 degrees above a so-called standard value.

Only in central Tokyo, 123 people died in July from heatstroke in connection with a heat wave.

Climate researchers have predicted that 2024 globally will be the warmest year on record.
