The President of the USA, Donald Trump, is reported to be giving the green light to American attack plans against Iran, but the Americans do not agree, according to a new survey conducted by The Economist and YouGov.
Just over half of the 1,512 American citizens surveyed (56 percent) believe that diplomacy and negotiations with Iran on nuclear weapons are the right way to go, rather than going to war. And this applies to both Republicans and Democrats.
The Washington Post conducted a similar survey on Wednesday, where they sent text messages to over 1,000 Americans to hear their opinion on possible American involvement. Almost half of those surveyed answer that they think the USA should refrain from attacking. A quarter support American involvement in the conflict and a third say they are uncertain.
"We should not be drawn into a military conflict with Iran. Diplomacy first. Israel is far too aggressive.", writes a woman in response to the newspaper. Another writes that she does not want young people in her vicinity to go to war and die. But among those who think the opposite, several answer that they do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons.
"How many times do you need to hear the ayatollah say 'death to America' before you believe him?", writes another respondent.
