59.2 percent of the more than 22,000 respondents across the United States in Gallup's survey still believe their lives will be better in five years. But that's down from 62.7 percent in 2024 and the lowest percentage since the survey began nearly two decades ago.
The decline last year came during the first year of President Donald Trump's second term. Confidence in the future fell the most - by 7.6 percentage points - among Democratic supporters. Among Republicans, there was an increase of 0.9 percentage points.
Among independents, confidence in the future fell by 1.5 percentage points.
Optimism among Hispanic Americans fell by 6 percentage points, among white Americans by 4.6 points, and among Black Americans by 2.2 points.
