Ambulance Helicopter Crashes on California Highway, Three Injured

An ambulance helicopter has crashed on a highway in northern California. Three people are reported to be critically injured.

The three on board were the pilot, a nurse and an ambulance paramedic, according to rescue personnel for the TV channel

. One of them got stuck under the wreckage, but could be released by rescue personnel and witnesses. All injured, two women and one man, have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

No patients were on board during the crash.

Videos on social media show how the helicopter was hovering over the highway before it crashed in the middle, in a cloud of smoke, writes AFP.

The accident occurred on highway 50 near the state capital Sacramento. No cars were hit. Traffic has been diverted and queues are long, according to ABC News.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
